We are excited that you are interested in staying at the Strong House Inn, our historic bed & breakfast in Vergennes, Vermont. To assist you in planning your visit, we have listed our policies here including our dog friendly policies. Age Requirements:
The inn is not suitable for children under the age of 12. We apologize, but we are unable to accommodate children under 12.
Check-in time:
Check-in time is between 3:00 pm and 9:00pm, should you be arriving after 9:00 p.m., please call to let us know. Special arrangements may be made for early and late check-ins. For early arrivals before 3:00pm if your room is not ready, we will be happy to store your bags while you begin to explore our beautiful city!
Check-out time:
Check-out is at 11:00am. Extra fees may apply for late check-out.
Damage Fee:
In the rare event that a room or its contents are damaged due to extreme guest negligence, we reserve the right to assess a cleaning or replacement charge equal to the fee needed to resolve the damage.
Deposits & Payments:
At time of reservation, you will be charged for one nights’ stay. The remaining balance is due on the day of check-in and will be charged to the card on file unless other payment arrangements have been made.
Dining:
Breakfast is available each morning of your stay at private breakfast tables in the main Inn. We serve a Chef’s Choice full breakfast which contains a bread dish, egg dish, fruit, coffee, tea, and juice. We will do our very best to accommodate food allergies or dietary restrictions with prior notice.
Bernedoodle Bar Service:
We have a full bar on site and would be happy to make you a refreshing beverage to enjoy in one of our many common area spots or in your room. We offer a comprehensive selection of fine wines and liquors. Please be aware that Vermont State Law prohibits the consumption in the Inn’s common areas of any alcoholic beverages not purchased at the Inn.
Minimum Stay:
A two-night minimum is required on weekends and a three-night minimum on major holiday weekends.
Parking:
We have plenty of parking here at the Inn for our guests. If you are planning on bringing a boat trailer, or another large vehicle, please contact us in advance to coordinate.
Pets:
We are able to accommodate dogs (maximum of two per room) in the Windsor Room and the Somerset Room only. If these rooms are not available, we will be happy to assist you to find the best and most convenient lodging for your pet during your stay.
A pet fee of $35 per night is due when you make your reservation. Please do not leave your dogs in the room unattended. A waste bin is provided for you to dispose of bags and we ask that you clean up after your puppies and keep them on a leash while on property.
In the event your pet displays unacceptable behavior, which may include excessive noise, we reserve the right to require immediate removal. Damage Assessment – You will be billed for any damage caused by your pet or for any extraordinary cleaning necessary after your pet’s stay.
Please be aware that we have a dog as well. Bjorn is our beloved bernedoodle and he loves everyone! If you are bringing a dog, please let us know in advance if your dog would not like to play so that we can keep Bjorn in our office.
Please let us know if you will be accompanied by a Service Dog and what service they provide.
Room Occupancy:
All rates are based on double occupancy per room night. Applicable taxes will be added. Certain rooms are configured to accommodate an additional guest or two. There is a $35 charge per additional person per room night. When you book directly with us, you will always find the best rate. We do not have rollaway beds available.
Smoking:
For the comfort and enjoyment of our guests, the Strong House Inn is smoke-free. This includes vaping and marijuana usage. We ask that our guests be courteous when using outdoor areas. A $250 damage charge will be assessed to rooms that have been smoked in.
Cancellation Policy:
Room deposits are fully refundable if we receive cancellation notice up to 14 days prior to your scheduled arrival minus a $35.00 administrative fee. If your cancellation is received with less than 14 days notification, you will be responsible for the full balance of your stay unless we are able to re-book your room.
A 30-day cancellation notice is required on major holidays and fall foliage (Sept. 15 – Oct. 31st). A 60-day cancellation notice is required for groups. Guests arriving later or departing earlier than their confirmed dates will be responsible for all the original room nights booked.
We cannot make exceptions for weather or personal emergencies so we recommend travel insurance should you have a concern that your plans may change.
Bookings made through third parties:
Expedia, Booking.com, and travel agents are not eligible for Strong House Inn specials, discounts or unique arrangements. Cancellations MUST be made through the outside entity/agent.

Forgotten Items: Items left behind at the Inn can be sent to you by US mail at your request. The cost of shipping (rounded to the next whole dollar) + a $5 handling and packaging fee will be billed to your credit card.
All rates are for single or double occupancy per night, and include a full country breakfast and afternoon refreshment.
Vermont rooms and meals tax of 9% is added to your bill at checkout.
We are very happy to be able to accept dogs on a limited basis; however, we have some guidelines for you to follow so you can bring your favorite buddy!
Advance reservations by phone are required. 802-877-3337. Based on dog friendly rooms available (Windsor and Somerset).
- Please be sure your dog is leashed when outside your guest room.
- Please do not leave your dog unattended in the room, unless in a crate and not barking.
- We know that you will agree that dogs do not belong on our beds or furniture. While housekeeping staff is very thorough, microscopic dog dander can cause irritation to other guests with allergies.
- Dog owners are responsible for removing dog waste and disposing in proper receptacles.
- Damages from dogs are the responsibility of the owner.
